NINTI

About the project
Ninti is the Martu word for ‘knowledge’. This is an ongoing series that started in 2016, based around several people who live in the Pilbara. Documenting the ongoing lives and events that are happening in some of the most remote communities on earth. One activity which I hope to focus on in the next few years is around the hunting of kangaroo. Not many people realise that hunting is still one of the main ways the Martu people get their meat, with kangaroo being the main source of protein for many in the community.
There is one emerging initiative which would create a potential micro business where the kangaroo skins to be sold(at present they are simply discarded) - This project is in very early stages, however, there is strong case that this could have a real positive impact for the Martu people, their cultural heritage and their communities.
